There are pleasures such as ease, comfort and happiness. Hence from birth to death, humans experience both suffering and happiness. This serves to render the life pattern imperfect and incomplete. The world is essentially unpleasant and bereft of perfection. The second truth is that sufferings are caused by desires and to some extent due to ignorance. Attachment towards impermanent things and ignorance of the fact that those things are temporary causes suffering. Moreover, suffering is caused by desire, passion, ardor, and craving for wealth and fame. A very important precept in this context is that desire causes ignorance and vice – versa (L. Ross, 2007). The third noble truth is regarding the truth of cessation. Sufferings can be avoided and the complete cessation of suffering can be attained through nirodha or the unmaking of sensual craving and conceptual attachment. In order to end sufferings, one should identify their origin and remove them. This can be achieved through dispassion towards material things, which are transient in nature. In other words, suffering can be removed by realizing the cause of suffering and then removing the very cause. This is a continuous process, which eventually culminates in Nirvana or that supreme state of being that is free from all worries, complexes, fabrications and the individual ego (The Four Noble Truths). The fourth Noble truth is the truth of the way, which represents the via media between the extremes of asceticism and indulgence. There is an eight – fold path by which a human can attain Nirvana and end sufferings permanently. This way comprises of right knowledge, right resolve, right speech, right conduct, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness and right meditation. This path removes all sufferings from life and extends over many lifetimes of a human (L. Ross, 2007). Therefore, Peter, you have to follow this eight fold path. The Buddha institutionalized a monastic order with five basic precepts. These precepts require abstention from killing others, stealing, indulgence in unchaste activities and the consumption of alcoholic drinks. The second doctrine is that of relative existence, which states that nothing has nature and character. In isolation, things are shunya, which means emptiness or a vacuum. Existence is therefore completely relative and the only unconditioned state is that of Nirvana. The third major doctrine is that there is no atman or soul. According to Buddhism, human beings consist of a body, feelings, ideas, impressions and momentary consciousness. Fourth, Buddhism does not accept the existence of God, Brahman or any other ultimate substance in the universe. Fifth, everything has a cause, which is dependent on a previous momentary existence. Sixth, karma, is only a causation and reincarnation is caused by the actions of people in the past. Therefore, karma is the effect of past actions (L. Ross, 2007). Another important concept of Buddhism is emptiness. A major philosophical paradox of Buddhism is that form is emptiness and emptiness is form. It is the mantra of Buddhism, whose origin is the Prajna Paramita Hridaya Sutra or the Heart Sutra. There are misconceptions about this concept of emptiness; western scholars defined it as nihilism. Nihilism states that reality is unknown, that nothing exists, that nothing meaningful can be described about the world. However, the Buddhist concept of emptiness is dissimilar to nihilism, because it states that the ultimate reality is knowable. It also states that there is a lucid ontological basis for phenomena. Further, human beings can communicate and obtain knowledge of the world. Sunyata or emptiness cannot be construed as nothingness. The Theories of Learning according to Reece Walker (2007) that states The five main areas are Behaviourism, Neo-behaviourism, Gestalt (Insight), Cognitive Development, and Humanists, as well as more recently theorised areas of lifelong learning, but Geoff Petty (2009) explains that Theories of Learning can be separated into three main schools of thought 1) The behaviourist school. 2) The cognitivist school. 3) The humanist school. Behaviourist school of thought is concerned completely with learned behaviour, and is interested in looking at behavior and observable changes, the learners react more to teaching rather than being actively involved in the process. Cognitivist is interested in looking at the thought processes behind the behavior, for example encoding information into short term and long term memory. Therefore cognitivist is the theory that humans generate knowledge and meaning through a sequence of development, such as the mental processes of recognition, recollection, anal ysis, reflection, application, creation, understanding, and evaluation. Humanist learner is able to adapt prior knowledge to new experience. The teachers role in humanistic learning is to encourage and enable the learner, by providing access to appropriate resources without obtrusive interference. The learning goal is high order learning of procedural knowledge, strategy, reasoning, abstract analysis, and development of expertise. All three learning theories have some common ground with each other. They all agree that learners respond better with positive reinforcement and praise should be given when the learners have completed their task and achieved. They also consider that new learning must be built on existing learning. But Cognitivist and Humanist theory have the most common ground. In my teaching practice I have applied theories and principles of learning in the following four areas lesson planning, lesson structure, meeting learners needs and assessing learning. I always write constructive session plans to serve it as a guide for anyone to use it. I have applied teaching strategies that suit different group profile. I used  learning theory cognitivist as a teacher being a facilitator and imparting the knowledge in a way it can be retained by the learners and applied. Based on implementing a democratic teaching style when the learning becomes a learner centered practice as they discover things themselv es in group learning to increase knowledge, by memorising information acquiring facts, skills, and methods making sense or abstracting meaning interpreting and understanding things in a different way. I also applied organisational policies and procedures in demonstrating the use of appropriate resources, strengths and limitations of specific resources, representation of cultural differences. To avoid stereotyping, and adapt resources to accommodate specific learning difficulties and disabilities, safety, learners wellbeing, self esteem, as Reece Walker (2007) referred to (Maslows hierarchy of needs). Communication to me as a teacher it means sharing information through listening, interacting, responding, talking, writing and understanding. It also has to be relevant and respectful to the group of learners. But before it reaches the receiver, the  message must go through noise (sources of interference). Finally, the receiver must convey the message to its destination. I used this model in delivering teaching to convey information with no interaction or a way of measuring understanding in the learner, which is significant to higher education teaching. And Harold Lasswells Lasswells Formula in 1976 (Online Link as above) is also a tran smission model, but it introduces the concept of the effect on the receiver or learner. In modern day teaching, communication is shifting further away from a teacher dictated methods of delivering education, to methods to ensure the learner is placed at the heart of teaching, and every individual within the classroom is considered and catered for. Furthermore, I used the advanced technology communication methods to contribute and to broaden my teaching styles, but I used this through the need to differentiate teaching more effectively and to break down the barriers that exist between teacher and learner. Engaging every learner is a difficult task and learners may differ in terms of age, gender, ability level, communication skills, confidence, learning styles and many other factors. But my job as a teacher is to ensure these factors do not hinder individual learning and that success and achievement within the group is widespread and at a high level. Origins of the Cold War The purpose of this paper is to explore the origins of the Cold War. To accomplish this exploration, the works of W.A. Williams, Robert Jervis, and Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. serves as the foundation. Before a closer examination of these works, a short explanation of the three common viewpoints regarding the study of the Cold War is warranted. These viewpoints are Attribution, Structural, and Misperception. With these viewpoints to guide the way, the above authors look at the origins of the Cold War. The European Balance of Power system was replaced by a stable (many w ould argue that it wasnt all that stable, just relatively predictable..just food for thought out of my notes, maybe relatively stable is a better word) bipolar system that put the US in direct opposition to the USSR following WWII. The Misperception view believes in just that, misperception between the two belligerents. The perception of each nation viewing the other was actually a misperception. The effect of mirroring caused many misperceptions between the two nations. Mirroring is seeing the other as we see ourselves in the mirror, implanting our logic, beliefs, values, and perceptions on the other instead of looking at the other as they see themselves.
