Art History II 4/22/2009 Museum duty assignment For the museum assignment I choose to comp ar and contrast the pastime cardinal examples of Italian renaissance art. The renaissance or re-birth was a cultural diverge that spanned from about the 14th through the seventeenth centuries. The renaissance began in Italy; it emphasized learning based on classical sources. The two works of art were reredoss; an altarpiece is a picture or relief re amazeing a religious battleground suspended in a frame behind the altar of a church. Altarpieces were unremarkably commissioned to artificers during the renaissance in Italy. both of the altarpieces I compared were in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The altarpiece keystoneings I looked at were Dosso Dossi’s Altarpiece masking the Holy Family, with the Young Saint lavatory the Baptist, a drift and Two Donors, and David Ghirlandaio’s Altarpiece present the Virgin and tyke and Saints Appollonia & Sebastian. The firs t piece I looked at was the Altarpiece Showing the Virgin and Child and Saints Appollonia & Sebastian by David Ghirlandaio, an artist from Florence, younger brother of the more famous artist Domenico Ghirlandaio. This was through with tempera paint on a wooden sheet, beforehand oil paints were available. This altarpiece shows the Virgin and Child and the two saints Appollonia and Sebastian. The virtuous and child are in a unified space, an location called in Italian sacra conversazione (sacred conversation). This depiction is static, meaning there is no appearance of movement. on that point are mostly plumb and horizontal lines, as remote to diagonal lines.
